A MESSAGE FROM

David Bennett

Quotation

I am doing my own triathlon which consists of running/hiking Box Elder Peak (10.2 miles with 4,904 ft elevation gain), mountain biking Corner Canyon (10.5 miles with 1,600 ft elevation gain), and SUP Smith and Morehouse Reservoir to show my support for the Brown family. I am sharing their write-up to get the word out:

"Steve Brown has been fighting end stage kidney disease for the last 18 months. Steve’s health has now progressed to stage 5; he is wait listed for a kidney transplant, and recently started dialysis as his kidneys can no longer support minimal function.

While dialysis will help in the short term, our goal is to locate a ๐‹๐ˆ๐•๐ˆ๐๐† ๐ƒ๐Ž๐๐Ž๐‘ to allow Steve to return to a more normal, healthy life where he feels well, is able to do what he loves, and most importantly is with us for the long term.

We’re reaching out to all family, friends, and acquaintances in an effort to widen the pool of potential donors. A private Facebook group has been created with more details for those interested in following this journey. Please submit a request for membership to the group ๐’๐ญ๐ž๐ฏ๐ž ๐๐ซ๐จ๐ฐ๐ง'๐ฌ ๐Š๐ข๐๐ง๐ž๐ฒ ๐Š๐š๐ฆ๐ฉ๐š๐ข๐ ๐ง if you would like to join.

How you can help:

1. ๐’๐‡๐€๐‘๐„ this message across all your social media platforms.

a. The more people who know, and are tested, the better the chances of finding a donor—not only for Steve, but for the 100,000 people out there waiting for a life-saving miracle

b. The median wait time for an individual’s first kidney transplant is 3.6 years and can vary depending on health, compatibility, and availability of organs

c. Only 6,442 people received a living-donor kidney in 2018

2. ๐‚๐Ž๐๐’๐ˆ๐ƒ๐„๐‘ learning more about living donation. If you would like to see if you are a match to donate a kidney for Steve, use the link below to start the screening process with ๐’๐“๐„๐•๐„๐ ๐๐‘๐Ž๐–๐ as the patient/recipient name. https://healthcare.utah.edu/transplant/living-donor/kidney/

a. ๐๐ฅ๐จ๐จ๐ ๐ญ๐ฒ๐ฉ๐ž: Steve can use a kidney from any person with O blood regardless of Rh factor, provided it matches all other criteria. Rh factor (+ or -) does not matter when it comes to a transplant.

b. ๐‚๐จ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ฌ: All testing and surgery costs are covered with no out-of-pocket costs for a living donor

c. ๐˜๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐ก๐ž๐š๐ฅ๐ญ๐ก: Kidneys work as a system; when they fail, they do so as a pair. This means that donating a kidney does not increase your chances of kidney failure down the road as a donor. Many programs move a person to the top of the transplant wait list if they have previously donated a kidney and need a transplant for themselves later in life. If you are not a match for Steve, but are still willing to donate, there is the option of a paired donorship. You can also make an altruistic donation to a stranger in need.

3. ๐‘๐„๐†๐ˆ๐’๐“๐„๐‘ to be an organ donor on your driver's license.

a. While not as successful as a living donation, kidneys from deceased donors save lives every day.

b. Donating your organs could save as many as 8 lives

4. ๐๐‘๐€๐˜ for Steve or hold a good thought for him.

a. Regardless of your beliefs, any faithful influence or caring thoughtfulness is greatly appreciated.

Please share this post or copy and paste it into a new post. Thank you in advance for all your love and support."

Thank you for your interest in sponsoring our team for 2020 Virtual Tour DaVita! Your support — whether moral, financial or both — means more than you know.

Virtual Tour DaVita is so much more than an event. I will make it an amazing adventure and a physical challenge, but it’s also an extension of our day-to-day calling to “give life” to others.

Bridge of Life (BOL), an independent 501(c)(3) public charity founded by DaVita Inc., is an international nonprofit organization working to strengthen health care globally through sustainable programs that prevent and treat chronic disease and currently to combat COVID-19 with its partners in vulnerable communities around the world. COVID-19 does not respect borders and will have a devastating impact on people in countries that have weak health systems and are less prepared to combat the disease. BOL supporters will help to provide lifesaving PPE, train dialysis clinicians on COVID-19 prevention and provide resources to educate community health workers and patients in countries like Haiti, Nigeria and Guatemala.

If we can all do a little, then together we can make a big impact on our world. I’d appreciate your support — any amount will help!
