A Message From Scott Holmes

Thank you for your interest in sponsoring me for 2018 Tour DaVita! Your support – whether moral, financial or both – means more than you know.

Some of you may know that my dad got a new lease on life in 2010 when my Uncle Lee Cassity donated a kidney to him.  My dad was in kidney failure, resulting from Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) that he inherited from his mother.  PKD affects 500,000 people throughout the United States and is the 4th leading cause of kidney failure; Cysts grow on the kidneys and eventually make them nonfunctional.  Currently, there isn't a cure.  My grandmother was 67 when she went into kidney failure and went on dialysis.  My great-grandmother was only 51 and died from the disease.  Dialysis was new in 1964 and she was told she was too old for the treatment.

Do I have the disease?  There's a 50/50 chance I do.  Two of my dad’s three siblings have it.  Only my older brother has been tested for the disease and fortunately he does not have it.  Hopefully my brothers and I will be so lucky.

Fortunately, medicine has advanced significantly since 1964 and companies like DaVita are to be thanked for the thousands of patients they assist each day so they can lead meaningful and productive lives.  There is still a great deal more to be done to improve the healthcare and education of Americans nationwide.  Your donation will go to help Bridge of Life (BOL), a nonprofit organization founded by DaVita. BOL serves thousands of men, women and children through four programs: kidney care, primary care, prevention and education, and kids’ camps.  By supporting my ride, your donation will help to improve healthcare across the globe.

Andrew, my older brother, is fortunate to work for DaVita and was excited to get involved with this year’s ride.  My dad, my brother Nick and I are lucky to join him.  If I can meet my fundraising goal by the mid-summer deadline, I’ll be on track to ride with my dad, brother and the rest of the group in September.  This cause hits close to home.  I’m excited to pay it forward and support those whose health is at risk.  With your help, we are making steps towards creating a better and happier place for those in need.  I would greatly appreciate your support.  Any amount will help!

Thank you,

Scott
